North Idaho College experiences doublt-digit enrollment increase for summer session 2009.

North Idaho College experienced a 22.12 percent increase in enrollment during summer session 2009.

Total headcount was up from 1,058 in the summer of 2008 to a record 1,292 this summer. The full-time equivalency (credit hour production) was up even more sharply, increasing 27.36 percent from 804 to 1,024 this summer.

Enrollment in professional-technical limited enrollment programs remained fairly flat, decreasing two students from 86 in 2008 to 84 in 2009. However, full-time equivalency in those programs increased 9.59 percent indicating students are taking more credits.

The largest segment of growth was in NIC’s general studies programs, which experienced 24.28 percent growth from 972 students in 2008 to 1,208 in 2009.

“We had more students taking summer courses than ever before,” said NIC President Priscilla Bell. “Summer enrollment is a good indicator of the enrollment increase we’re expecting this fall. We’re working hard to expand offerings to meet the increased demand.”

The number of applications filed at NIC for fall has already increased 11 percent, up more than 400 applications from last year at this time. In addition, registrations are up 28 percent and classes are filling fast, according to NIC Vice President for Student Services Eric Murray.

“We’re reminding everyone that this year it is key to apply and register early,” Murray said. “Not only so that you get into the classes you want, but so that we can identify and be responsive to the demand by adding sections and other expanded offerings.”

An application can be downloaded at www.nic.edu/admissions.

New students who have been accepted for fall semester can schedule an appointment with NIC Advising Services at (208) 769-7821 to register for courses.
