Winners announced in North Idaho College Foundation's Really BIG Raffle.

Thousands of ticket holders sat in lawn chairs on the grounds of North Idaho College Wednesday night hoping to become winners in the NIC Foundation’s Really BIG Raffle drawing.

Cash and prizes totaling more than $335,000 were given away at the 16th annual event, including the $300,000 house built by students in NIC’s carpentry program.

Winners were:

Grand prize $300,000 house—Rob and Jan Garrett of Post Falls with ticket #3001. The couple was not present at the drawing.

First place $20,000 car—Justin Hoertz of Rathdrum with ticket #3512. The ticket holder was the only major winner present at the drawing.

Second place $10,000 boat—Kathy Fix of Spokane, Wash., with ticket #1189.

Third place $3,500 travel package—William Clark of Spokane, Wash., with ticket #2036.

Fourth place $2,000 shopping spree—James Pond of Post Falls with ticket #2591.

Those who purchased tickets by May 31 also qualified to win two additional early bird prizes. The $500 Costco gift card went to Bill Perkins of Coeur d’Alene and the $250 Fred Meyer fuel card was won by Shirley Ann Sorg of Coeur d’Alene.

Five bonus prizes were also given away. Lucille McGee of Post Falls won the North Idaho bed and breakfast getaway; Deborah Clark of Hayden won the Clearwater River fishing trip; Ken Carlson of Spokane Valley, Wash., won the Lake City Ford auto detail; Chad Howell of Athol won the Taryn Hecker Photography package; and Bonnie Mayer of Coeur d’Alene won dinner for four at Wolf Lodge Steakhouse.

Despite the poor economy that is affecting fund-raisers nationwide, the last of the Really BIG Raffle’s 5,000 tickets was sold July 3, selling out for the 16th consecutive year.

This year’s raffle was supervised and audited by the public accounting firm of Bernhart & Buck.

The NIC Foundation will net more than $190,000 from the Really BIG Raffle this year. Through the fundraiser the past 16 years, the NIC Foundation has generated net proceeds of $2.5 million. This revenue has enhanced the NIC Foundation’s ability to support important student needs and programs at NIC.
