North Idaho College offers special discounts to seniors for NIC events and classes.

North Idaho College offers a special service to senior citizens that qualifies them for free admission to all NIC-sponsored events in which admission is charged. The NIC Gold Card program is free and open to all senior citizens 60 and older. Events held on campus but sponsored by entities other than NIC, such as Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, are not included.

In addition, seniors with an NIC Gold Card also qualify for a $5 semester-long parking permit to park anywhere that student parking is permitted on campus.

To sign up for an NIC Gold Card, visit the College Relations Office in Sherman Administration Building or call (208) 769-7764.

In addition, NIC also offers a discounted rate to seniors who enroll in college credit courses. Those courses are offered for $25 each and then an additional $5 per credit. Therefore, a three-credit class that would normally cost $389 would be $40 with the senior discount.

NIC is also offering several one-credit classes designed specifically for seniors for $30.

“Guided Autobiography for Older Adults” is a 10-week class that begins Feb. 26. It is offered from 10 to 11:50 a.m. Fridays in the Meyer Health and Sciences Building Room 126. The course is designed to help those interested in beginning an autobiography or memoir. The class focuses on remembering and sharing stories through small weekly writings.

“Saturday at the Movies for Older Adults” will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays from Jan. 16 through Feb. 20 in Molstead Library Todd Hall. The course will focus on movies with an elderquest theme, which centers on the navigation of the senior years.

Other classes designed for seniors are available on NIC’s main Coeur d’Alene campus and at the NIC Ponderay Center. Registration for spring semester is now open. View the class schedule at http://www.nic.edu/schedules/ or call (208) 769-3320.
