“The Laramie Project,” by Moises Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project, is a fascinating and powerful look at Laramie, Wyo. in the aftermath of Matthew Shepard's savage murder in October of 1998. The play examines not only the event, but the effects of a community finding itself at the center of the media's attention. This is not a biography, rather, it is more of a collage or snapshot of how the community and the people affected by the murder responded. The play was created from over 200 interviews conducted over the course of one year by members of New York's Tectonic Theater Project. The members interviewed over 70 people multiple times, resulting in a variety of perspectives about Laramie, Shepard's murder, and the nature of hate. The members edited the interviews to create the script, forming the basis for a unique and compelling theatrical experience.

There will be post-show discussions with audience members on Oct. 22, 23 and 29.

Eight actors play all of the roles. This has been a wonderful challenge for the North Idaho College student actors, and they've risen to the challenge with energy and commitment. The cast consists of Cory Williamson, Loretta Underwood, Jonathan Breitkreutz, Brittney LaCalli, Cole Durbin, Vienna Thomas, Jeff Mollgaard, and Carson Sharrai.

The play contains mature themes and language. No infants please.
