Bike riders who wish to honor the memory of former North Idaho College student Brian Williams are invited to the NIC Edminster Student Union Building at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 to take part in a ride on Canfield Mountain. Donations will fund the Brian Williams Memorial Scholarship for students enrolled in NIC’s Resort Recreation Management Outdoor Leadership program.

No pre-registration is required. Just grab your gear and come on down -- all are welcome.

NIC alum Williams was 28 years old when he was killed in a plane crash last summer. He was a passionate outdoorsman and the scholarship is intended to carry that passion on for generations to come. He attended Outdoor Pursuits trips and was involved in the outdoor programs that NIC offered. He then moved on to the University of Montana to pursue his dreams of working in the field of law to fight for changes in environmental policies. Williams spent his free time doing the things he loved, which were enjoying the scenery from the top of a mountain peak or finding peace at his cabin on the Moyie River, with his dog Charlie, his friends, family, and his guitar.

On Oct. 30, after taking a ride through Williams’ old territory, friends and family can share stories and memories at an after-ride gathering at Capone’s. For those who are not riding but would like to share memories and their support for this scholarship, they are welcome to come by and join everyone for the gathering at 3 p.m. in Capone’s.

This will be the first “Brian Williams Memorial Ride” but the Resort Recreation Management Outdoor Leadership program is hoping to make this ride an annual event. For further details or information please contact Paul Chivvis at (208) 676-7169.
