Ten NIC students, including Danielle Lockwood of Sandpoint, recently placed at the state Business Professionals of America (BPA) competition, qualifying them for the national competition.

Ten North Idaho College students qualified to compete in the upcoming national event by achieving top placement in business-related events at the recent state Business Professionals of America (BPA) competition in Boise March 4. The students competed with university and college students from across the state in business skills competitions through BPA, a national organization for high school and college students preparing for careers in business.

“These students were wonderful representatives of North Idaho College not only in terms of academic success but also in terms of service to the college and community,” said NIC Computer Applications and Office Technology Instructor Kathie O’Brien. “Every person affiliated with NIC should be proud of their accomplishments.”

The 2011 BPA National Leadership Conference will be held in Washington, D.C., May 4-8.  For the first time in history, a professional-technical student organization will hold its opening session on the national mall. In addition, students will experience a “day on Capitol Hill” and the opportunity to meet with their senators and representatives.

“This event will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these students,” said O’Brien.

The students are currently raising the money necessary to fund their trip to the national competition. For sponsorship or donation information, contact O’Brien at (208) 769-3264 or Kathleen_O'[email protected].
