The North Idaho College Workforce Training Center is offering several new Commercial Driver's License Courses.

The North Idaho College Workforce Training Center is offering several new courses to help new drivers in Idaho and Washington attain a Commercial Driver’s License or to help those who have had a CDL in the past to update their skills.

The Commercial Driver’s License Class A course includes 160 hours of classroom, hands-on and behind-the-wheel training and follows the Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) required curriculum. The course prepares new drivers for entry-level employment in less than four weeks.

Those who already hold a CDL can enroll in the CDL Refresher class to sharpen their commercial truck driving skills to get back on the road. The course includes 40 hours of training in the classroom and behind the wheel.

The CDL Class A Upgrade course is offered for drivers who already hold a CDL class B or C license that wish to upgrade to a class A CDL, which allows the ability to drive a combination vehicle. This course includes 40 to 80 hours of instruction in the classroom, behind the wheel and in an observational setting.

Those interested in the courses are encouraged to attend a free information session to learn more about the course curriculum, entrance requirements, class schedule, costs and employment opportunities. The information session will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21 at the NIC Workforce Training Center in Post Falls. Registration is recommended but not required to attend the information session.

Applicants to the Commercial Driver’s License courses must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record, pass the Department of Transportation  physical exam and drug screen and must be at least 18 years old.

Information: NIC Workforce Training Center at (208) 769-3333 or www.nic.edu/wft.
