Volunteers Sought to Help Clean Up Downtown Sandpoint and Beyond

The Downtown Sandpoint Business Association and Mountain West Bank are teaming up to ‘Shake the Sand Out of Sandpoint’ and clean up area streets on April 30, 2011.

The Shake The Sand Out clean up event will bring local businesses, community organizations and area residents together to remove litter from streets in downtown Sandpoint, Ponderay and Kootenai and spruce up the area before the busy summer season kicks into full swing.

The fun will kick off on Saturday, April 30 when volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Jeff Jones Town Square on Main and Oak in downtown Sandpoint. There, they’ll register, receive their commemorative Shake The Sand Out t-shirt and be treated to breakfast courtesy of Mountain West Bank.

Participants will be assigned an area in downtown Sandpoint, Ponderay or Kootenai and, then, fan out in teams to pick up litter, pull weeds and tidy up the business corridors. Disposable gloves and bags will be provided but volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather by wearing comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear as well as to bring gardening gloves.

The event will wrap up at 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Mountain West’s Sandpoint Financial Center, located at 1323 Highway 2, with a catered lunch courtesy of Mountain West Bank and great prizes generously provided by Mountain West Bank and the members of the Downtown Sandpoint Business Association.
