Marcia Phillips, Republican

My husband, Barney, and I moved to Careywood three and one-half years ago. We found our dream life in Bonner County, Idaho. Before deciding to seek the office of County Commissioner, I gave considerable thought to my motivation, assessing my talents, experience and ability and how I could be of service to Bonner County. I believe I have the broad-based experience required to be an effective leader, as well as the desire and determination to guide our county into the next decade with positive leadership and planning for our future.
I have 15 years of experience as a property manager and owner of my own business; I have over three years experience in municipal finance; over five years experience as a planning commissioner in municipal and urban planning and I currently serve on the Bonner County Planning and Zoning Commission. As an involved and interested citizen, I led a community group who worked together with county and city elected officials for over six years to preserve land and later build a central city park. My ability to build consensus and relationships was rewarded with recognition as an Outstanding Leader from the American Planning Association.
My education includes a degree in Human Behavior and another degree in Math and Science. In addition, I have recently completed a class at North Idaho College in grant writing. During my career I have completed many classes in management and supervision. During my college career I co-founded a women’s support group (WINGS – Women In Networks Guarantee Success) whose purpose was to mentor and provide emotional and academic support to underprivileged women.
I believe that Bonner County is in a unique position to move positively into the future. The ground work has been laid for proactive management and positive leadership which I intend to continue by standing firm on the following issues:
Human Rights – I will vigorously support a civic environment in Bonner County in which all citizens are aware of and respect the rights and human dignity of all citizens.
Public Safety -- I will take an active role in supporting the work of our public safety officers to ensure a safe community and continue our fight against crime.
Education -- Education is a vital, key element to a healthy, vibrant community. I will work to support the development of higher education in Bonner County, bringing opportunity to learn new skills to achieve greater employment opportunities.
County Employees and other Elected Officials – I will work as a partner with the dedicated employees and elected officials to promote a high level of customer service and a team effort for the citizens of Bonner County.
Roads – I will actively pursue ALL financial options to repair our roads, working to keep our individual costs as low as possible.
Grass Burning and Mining -- I will oppose any activity that jeopardizes our health, quality of life, economy, and the enjoyment of our natural resources. Taxes – As a citizen and taxpayer of Bonner County, I will work hard to maintain a low tax base while ensuring that vital services continue.
Economic Development -- I will work closely with the Bonner County Economic Development Corporation to bring diversified employment opportunities to our county. Comprehensive Plan – Each community within Bonner County has unique characteristics. I will encourage the participation of citizens within these communities to identify those characteristics and contribute to the comprehensive plan development. I will work hard to ensure our rural characteristics are preserved while continuing to improve our quality of life. Legislative Participation – I will work with the state legislators to ensure that the concerns and needs of Bonner County are recognized in the decision making process.
As your County Commissioner I will use my experience, applied with the highest integrity, for the benefit of all of our citizens. I will make thoughtful and educated decisions based upon ALL of the facts presented. I will encourage the participation of citizens in their government and I will provide the opportunity to harness the incredible intellect and talent in our citizens to build a positive, sound and healthy community.
Bonner County – cooperative communities supporting unique and diverse opportunity for business, education and family living.
A vote for Marcia Phillips on May 28, is a vote for experience and integrity in government.
