NIC production of Shakespear play to open Oct. 22.

The North Idaho College Theater Department’s fall production opens Oct. 22 with the Shakespeare play “Measure for Measure.”

The title comes from the gospel of Matthew “… with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” The play is about hypocrisy, judging others and forgiveness, according to NIC Theater Director Joe Jacoby. The play takes place in a shadowy world where values and authority become fuzzy and high expectations fail to be met.

“Measure for Measure’ is one of Shakespeare’s problem plays, because it’s not quite a comedy and it’s not quite a drama, but has elements of both,” Jacoby said.

Cast members include Jonathan Breitkreutz of Athol; Calvin Langley of Sandpoint; Emily Cleveland and Nicholas Madsen of Hayden; and Shane Brown, Cory Williamson, Lindsay Teter and Jeff Mollgaard of Coeur d’Alene. Community members William Caisley of Hayden and Marina Kalani of Coeur d’Alene are also a part of the cast.

“The play also presents a number of acting challenges and the cast is rising to those challenges with enthusiasm and dedication.”

Curtain time will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31 in NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center.

Audience members are recommended to be 12 and older. The play is free and open to the public.
