We Remember

It just so happened that our twice a month publishing schedule has us printing on September 11th. "Should this be a special issue?" we asked ourselves and finally, we answered, "No." There will be plenty of information today; newspapers, radio, television and everyone sitting around a lunch counter at any of the numerous eating establishments along the Clark Fork River Valley will all be remembering those hours a year ago for us - and as we drive the back roads to our publisher in Spokane, or the highways that wend into the heart of this place we call home, filling up racks with freshly printed newsprint, we here at The River Journal will remember too.

"We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them... as they ...'slipped the surly bonds of earth' to 'touch the face of God.'" The words we choose today can either draw us together or pull us apart. It's our choice. "We mourn their loss as a nation together," President Ronald Reagan said of an altogether different tragedy. Together. When all is said and done, that's all there really is to say about this date. Kiss your children today. Call your parents and tell them you love them. Get together with friends, and celebrate the joy of together, and the blessings of life.
