Sandpoint – Outdoor enthusiasts interested in exploring the Idaho Selkirks have a new resource to help find their way.

The Idaho Conservation League is distributing free copies of a hiking map and recreation guide for the Idaho Selkirks. The guide features thirteen great hiking and backpacking destinations in the North Idaho mountain range, all illustrated on a plush topographic map.

“It’s the middle of the summer and its great time to get out and enjoy the Idaho Selkirks,” said Susan Drumheller with ICL. “The snow has melted off the high peaks and our guide to the Selkirks will show you where to go.”

The Idaho Selkirks offer more than 140 miles of hiking trails on Forest Service and state lands. There are twenty-four beautiful mountain lakes, dozens of high peaks and jaw dropping scenery. Short hikes like Roman Nose Lakes offer great family excursions. Experienced backpackers will find quality multiday trips like Long Canyon.

“If you haven’t visited places like Roman Nose, Beehive Lakes, Harrison Lake or Chimney Rock, you’re missing out,” said Drumheller. “These beautiful mountain get-aways are right in our backyard.”
