Nordic Trails hike # 395

Due to high winds the big Quad was shut down and as an alternative they opened a usually unused lift so people could get to the top of the mountain which was shrouded in fog. It was overcast but soon sun began to peek out…I told it to go away. Too bright on my eyes.

Not too many people in the village as we headed over to begin on the snowshoe trails. Nice crunchy new snow laid on top. So many trails had not been track set or even groomed…that’s okay with us...we like to walk in fresh snow. Met a woman with a dog…we let her pass.

The usual climb up to Picnic Point…had to take my jacket off. The shed had so much snow on the roof…the door was easier to open today. Drank hot chocolate and ate mango…and sat too long. When we started out again, my legs didn’t want to move. I think the lactic acid settled in my muscles. Usually on summer hikes, stopping for more than five minutes is not good and I never sit down. It was really hard to keep going today, especially on any up hills…and I didn’t feel that well, and feeling like a cold is trying to get me. No energy. I sucked down a Gu-Gel to see if that would help. It didn’t in spite of the sugar and caffeine buzz. So I just plodded on resolving to never go in the shed again unless it is freezing cold and never sit down. I lost my momentum.

And what do you know! Boomerang had been groomed about three days ago...we took it up to Cloudwalker. We thought about heading to Wolf Ridge but it was getting a tad late, the views were not that great today and the wind was blowing pretty good up there. By now nice snow had begun to fall. Just walked for about five more minutes, turned around to get out of the wind and ate lunch before heading back to the village. People watched for a bit…quite a few little ones on the learning run. Boring report, I know.
