North Idaho College coaching staff and players will offer a softball summer camp July 27-30.

Room is still available for players ages 8-18 to sign up for the North Idaho College’s Cardinal Heat pitching and position play skills camp July 27-30 at Finucane Park, located on the northwest corner of Prairie Avenue and Fourth Street in Hayden.

NIC’s softball coaching staff and players will lead the camp, which is divided into two heats, one specifically for pitching skills and the other a position play/offensive heat camp. Both heats will be offered from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the duration of the four-day camp.

Participants in the pitching heat will receive instruction on pitching mechanics, be gunned for speed and will work directly with NIC assistant softball coach Ron Bradstreet, one of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s top pitching coaches. In addition to mound instruction, pitchers will also receive position play and offensive instruction.

Other featured staff members include NIC head softball coach Don Don Williams and former NIC softball player and assistant coach Paige Smith, who is currently the head coach of the softball program at Adelphi University in Long Island, N.Y.

Players participating in the position play/offensive heat camp will receive instruction on infield skills, outfield skills, catching, hitting, short game and base running. Participants can choose to stay in one position play or receive instruction in a combination of positions.

Campers will have the opportunity to practice the skills they learned in camp by participating in controlled practice games on the second and fourth days.

Cost is $200 for the pitchers heat camp and $150 for the position play/offensive heat camp. Download a registration form by clicking on the “2009 Pitching/Position Play Skills Camp” link at http://www.nic.edu/athletics/camps_clinics.asp.
