Long Bridge Swim Needs Volunteers

Established event loses important volunteer team, needs help for Aug 1 event

My husband and I work with the Long Bridge Swim organizers and have been made aware the organizers have lost an important team of volunteers. The local National Guard troop worked with them the last two years, but have suddenly been reassigned this year and a replacement team is needed for the August 1 event.

The work would entail picking up the swimmers’ bags on the South end of the Long Bridge. These are numbered and contain their flip-flops and other jackets ,etc. not going into the water with the swimmer. Then the bags are loaded into a large truck (I believe a truck is available) to the North end of the Long Bridge, the bags are then organized by number as much as possible and tired swimmers are assisted with locating their bags. A team of scouts or other group (about 10 helpers) would be most useful, but an adult leader(s) also would be required. Plenty of pre-instructions are available.

If you know of a scout troop or other group of energetic young people looking for a community project this summer, please let me know, or have the leader contact me as soon as possible.

If anyone needs more information about this annual event, here is a link to their website. It has grown from about 80 swimmers in 1998 to over 600 last year with 700 expected this year.
