Check out the great programs coming up from Sandpoint Parks and Recreation!

The Sandpoint Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of great programs to keep you busy all year long.  Check out some of our programs that will be running or have a registration deadline between now and December 7th, 2009.  To register or if you have any questions regarding these programs, we are located at 1123 Lake St, it Sandpoint City Hall.  You can call us at 263-3613 or visit us online at www.cityofsandpoint.com/Parks_Rec Sandpoint Parks and Recreation, Experience the Possibilities!

SANDPOINT PARKS & REC.OPEN GYM BASKETBALL

Open Gym Basketball is here! Open gym will begin Sunday Nov. 15th at the Sandpoint High School Gym and continue each week until the end of December. The gym will be available for girls and boys in grades 3-12 on Sunday afternoons from 4-5:30pm from Nov. 15th through Dec 27th.  Gym use for youth is free!  Open Gym will also be available for adult play from 5:30-7pm on Sunday Evenings Nov. 15th through Dec 27th.  Adults are defined as ages 18 and over.  Entry fee for adults is $2 payable at the door.  Special THANKS to Lake Pend Oreille School District for partnering to offer this open gym opportunity.  

 

CHILDREN'S INTRO TO TAEKWONDO / KARATE AND SELF DEFENSE

This great program is taught by Sandpoint Taekwondo. This course teaches basic self-defense skills and highlights the importance of self-discipline in a child friendly setting.  This course fee includes 3 lessons and a uniform. Course begins on Monday and includes two more classes that same week. This class is open to children from 5-12 years of age and takes place at Sandpoint Taekwondo (31829 Hwy 200- the old Funtastics building) from 3:15-4pm.  Session # 2 starts Monday, December 7th.  Cost is $20/child ($2 city discount).  REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, December 4th.

 

HEALTH, BEAUTY, AND WELLNESS

Life can get stressful and money is precious these days so come and join Suzy Avina from Avina By Nature Consulting to learn how to make items just as our grandparents did.  Why buy everything you use?  Learn how to make it yourself and have fun doing it.  Know exactly what you are putting into those products for your body, and avoid the unnecessary chemicals.  This class is open to ages 12 yrs and up, it will be held Wed. Dec. 2, 9, and 16th at Sandpoint Community Hall, you can choose from

Session #1 from 3:15-4:45pm or

Session #2 from 5:30-7pm.  Class fee is $30 ($3 city discount).

Class Features: Making your own face products, Making candles, and Flavored cooking oils.

 

SIMPLE, QUICK, AND NUTRITIOUS BEGINNER COOKING

This class is great for the beginner cook and children that want to learn the basics and do not have a lot of time to prepare something.  This class will focus on recipes, easy to know terms, nutrition, using the microwave and other simple cooking equipment.  You will also get to eat your masterpieces.  Parents are welcome to accompany your child.  Call Suzy Avina for more information: 946-6640.  This great class is open to children ages 6yrs and up, and will be held at the Sandpoint Community Hall from 3:15-4:15pm.  The class is offered on Tuesdays, Dec. 3 (from 3-4pm), Dec. 10 (from 3-4pm) and Dec. 17 (from 3:15-4:15.).  The class fee is $20 ($2 city discount).

 

CHRISTMAS FAIR 2009 

This holiday season as you make your shopping list, you don’t want to forget to come to the annual Christmas Fair at the Bonner County Fairgrounds. With plenty to do you’re sure to have a blast, get your shopping done and support your local crafters and artists.

*From 10am-4pm shop till you drop!

*Gift-wrapping will be available too!

All proceeds will go toward the Fairgrounds floor replacement fund.

DATE:  Sat. December 5, 2009.                  

TIME: 10-4pm                   

LOCATION: 4203 N Boyer, B.C. Fair Grounds in the main exhibit hall.

FREE – AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVER WORKSHOP

This winter the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center will conduct a free avalanche transceiver workshop for the general public.  This workshop is intended to introduce winter backcountry travelers to the different models and designs of avalanche transceivers and familiarize them with how they function.  Hands on training outside (weather and snow permitting) with how to perform a search in several different methods with different transceivers is an important part of the workshop.  A variety of recreation user group from skiers to snowmobiles and snowshoers, and multiple age groups, are the target audience for this workshop. 

BRING YOUR OWN TRANSCEIVER and learn how to be proficient with it.  For other instruction classes offered through the USFS check http://www.fs.fed.us.ipnf under backcountry conditions update.  It will start at 6pm on Wednesday December 9th.  The class will be held at 1500 Hwy 2 W in the downstairs conference room of the new county building in Sandpoint.
